This Austin “Red” Robbins basketball card is number 212 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 American Basketball Association season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the San Diego forward on a green background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Red has a fine 15-20 foot ‘bank’ shot,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.
Nicknamed for his red hair, Austin spent his entire career in the ABA from 1967 to 1975. Robbins played for the New Orleans Buccaneers, Utah Stars, San Diego Conquistadors, Kentucky Colonels, and Virginia Squires during his career, winning an ABA title with the 1971 Utah Stars. In the 1971-72 season, the 6'8" forward led the ABA in three-point percentage with a mark of .408.
