George Thompson Basketball Card


This George Thompson basketball card is number 221 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 American Basketball Association (ABA) season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Memphis Tams guard on a yellow background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “George’s uniform #24 was retired by Marquette,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.

Thompson played in the ABA from 1969-1974 for the Pittsburgh Pipers, Pittsburgh Condors, and Memphis Tams. He was a three time All-Star in the ABA from 1972-1974. He spent the 1974-75 season playing in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks. On October 14, 1972, Thompson set a single-game ABA record for free throw attempts with 29, making 24 of them.
