James Jones Basketball Card

This James “Jimmy” Jones basketball card is number 229 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 American Basketball Association (ABA) season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Utah Stars guard on a yellow background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “James possesses acrobatic shooting moves,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.

Jimmy Jones played in the ABA for seven years, playing for the New Orleans Buccaneers, Memphis Pros, and Utah Stars. He was named to the ABA All-Star team six times and selected to the All-ABA 1st Team three times. Jones led the ABA in field goal percentage in 1969 and in free throw percentage in 1974, making him the only player in either the NBA or ABA to be a league-leader in both categories. He played in the NBA for the Washington Bullets from 1974-1977.
