Cash Box

Description:

Square, lidded box with gilt brass key lock on front; painted black with red and yellow pencilling or striping on the top and sides. Interior is divided into six compartments, four equal-size across front and one small at back have curved bottoms while the large one at back left is flat. Flat lid has two hinges on back and is made of one piece with rims folded down to fit over the box sides; box is made of one piece with a folded rim. Small, steel key with trefoil bow is stored inside; one side is stamped incuse "N. L. CO. / ROCKFORD" inside an oval in the bow and "Cl2K5" on the shank.

Key maker is National Lock Co. of Rockford, IL; established in 1903.
