UNIVAC I Serial Plate

Description:

Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation carefully labeled the parts to the computers it made. This plate originally was on the a part of the first UNIVAC I, used at the Bureau of the Census. It is marked: MODEL NO. 10 P 355 SER. NO. 001 (/) ECKERT-MAUCHLY (/) COMPUTER CORP., PHILA., PA. (/) DIVISION OF REMINGTON RAND, INC. (/) DATE 3/30/51. When parts of the UNIVAC I from the Bureau of the Census were given to the Smithsonian in 1963, the plate was removed from that object and put on a commemorative plaque which has museum number 1962.24310.05. The plate has since been removed from the plaque.
