Alma Jordan Knauber (1893-1975) designed this test to judge the artistic ability of students at junior and senior high schools, universities, and art schools. It actually requires that subjects draw sketches.
Knauber was born and raised in Ohio and obtained a teaching diploma in art at the University of Cincinnati in 1916. She also would get a B.S. and M.A. from Ohio State University. Her master’s thesis was on testing for art ability. She also published on testing the art ability of very young children in 1931, while teaching at the school of household administration of the University of Cincinnati. The Knauber Art Ability Test was published the next year.
Knauber also painted in both water colors and oils.
