One of 22 specimens donated to the museum in 1928 by Merck & Company for an exhibition "telling the story of the collection, marketing, and medicinal use of well-known and extensively used drugs." The curator requested examples of official preparations of iron and potassium, and Merck provided 8 specimens of potassium preparations and 14 specimens of an iron preparations.
