In 1954, having won the Pulitzer Prize for his autobiography, The Spirit of St. Louis, Charles A. Lindbergh donated the $500 prize money to the School of Dental and Oral Surgery at Columbia University in honor of Charles Henry Land (1847–1922), an innovative dentist and his maternal grandfather. Lindbergh also donated several small items that Land had made for him. One was this small medallion.
