The Cordis Corp. was making synchronous pacemakers by 1966, and donated this example to the Smithsonian in 1979. The inscription reads “Omni-Stanicor / R-Wave Inhibited / Programmable Cardiac Pacer / 162D-58559 / Cordis / Miami, Florida, U.S.A.” Cordis sold its pacemaker unit to Teletronics Holdings, Ltd., of Sydney, Australia in 1987. The following year it pled guilty to having sold thousands of defective units.
