MADE IN U.S.A.” and “SIZE 90.” Ortho Pharmaceutical was formed in 1931 as a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, to produce Ortho-Gynol, the first prescription spermicidal contraceptive jelly. The firm introduced the coil-spring diaphragm in the 1940s.
