Wheat Lamp Battery Box


This is the battery box portion of a Wheat Lamp Model W cap lamp that was made by the Koehler Manufacturing Company of Marlborough, Massachusetts around 1940. The front of the battery box bears the seal of the Bureau of Mines with the text “Permissible Electric Cap Lamp, Approval No. 20.” The battery box is without its cover, cord, and cap lamp. This object belonged to mining lamp inventor Grant Wheat’s personal collection that was donated to the museum in 1962.
