Description:

Iron steelyard with one weight, and a “J. P. SHUMWAY ASHFORD CT” inscription at one end of the beam. John P. Shumway (1808-1878) was a steelyard manufacturer in Ashford, Connecticut. An American eagle adorns the inscription.
