Second Baseman Joe Gordon played Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees (1938-1943, 1946) and Cleveland Indians (1947-1950). In 1944-1945 he served in the United States Army during the Second World War.
Stellar on both sides of the plate, Gordon was a 9-time All-Star and 5-time World Series Champion, winning the American League’s Most Valuable Player award in 1942. Over the course of his career, Gordon had a lifetime .268 batting average 253 home runs, and 975 runs batted in.
Following his playing days, Gordon served as Manager for the Indians (1958), Detroit Tigers (1960), Kansas City Athletics (1961) and Kansas City Royals (1969), compiling an overall record of 305-308.
The infielder known as “Flash” was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
