Pear-shaped creamer on three cast cabriole legs with shell knees and triple-pad or stepped hoof feet. Plain, concave-curved rim has wide pouring lip. Cast, sprigged S- and C-curve handle with heel terminal. Bottom inside is struck with an incuse "X" and possibly a dotted circular touchmark for John Will.
Maker attributed to John Will (1696-1774) of New York, NY; emigrated from Neuwied, Germany and worked in New York, 1752-1774. Three sons, Henry (worked in New York City and Albany, 1763-1793), Philip (New York City and Philadelphia, 1763-1787), and William (worked in Philadelphia, 1764-1798), were also pewterers. Attribution based on similarities to marked John Will three-legged cream pots and the possible touchmark (see tankard 1986.0027.15).
