This employee ID badge belonged a worker at the sprawling River Rouge Ford auto plant. As factories grew larger in late 1800s and early 1900s, managers issued ID badges to control access. The badge identifies the worker with a letter and a four-digit number; the letter designated the division of the plant the employee worked in. Below badge number “X6560” is a raised image of a Ford plant in the background with the word “Ford” superimposed over the plant. Below is the inscription that reads “Rouge” filled in with black enamel. This style of badge dates from between 1938 until 1966.
