A deal souvenir, or "tombstone" in the finance and investment banking world, commemorates the closing of a major business deal. It generally includes the names or logos of the firms involved, as well as the financial advisors. As the influence of the financial sector and the size of deals grew, deal souvenirs often became more elaborate and colorful. This souvenir commemorates McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. offering $400 million of senior subordinated debentures due 1999, through Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. This influx of cash allowed McCaw Cellular to purchase cellular spectrum cheaply in burgeoning markets, giving them a powerful position in the industry as it developed.
