This tea-length dress, made out of blue fabric with a geometric pattern, was worn by Minnijean Brown Trickey in 1958, for the National Negro Elks Convention. She and the other students members of the Little Rock Nine attended a ceremony to receive a $1,000.00 scholarship award. The bodice of this dress is decorated with smocking and the dress closes with a zipper along the side seam, and is missing the belt. From the photograph of the award ceremony, we know that she wore the dress off the shoulder. At the time of the donation, Minnijean recalled that she also wore the dress for a school dance. The dress may have been purchased at Macy's but had home done alterations which were common during the period.
