Kuichi Takei's dog tags from his service in WWII. One tag reads, "Takei, Kuichi / 39003452 T41 43 A / NS" while the other reads "Kuichi Takei / 39003452 T42 A / Yasu Takei / RT. 3 Box 79 P / Santa Cruz, CALIF." Takei was drafted in February, 1941. After Pearl Harbor, he, like other Nisei in the military who were not discharged, had their weapons taken away and were placed under guard. He joined the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 442nd and served C Battery. The 522nd Field Artillery Battalion helped to liberate survivors of the Landsberg-Kaufering Dachau Death March and Dachau sub-camps.
