This chestnut sided warbler is a tiny woodcarving by Sadao Oka. Mr. Oka used his skill in both woodcarving and painting to show minute details of this small bird. This bird has a tiny red berry in its beak, further showing Mr. Oka's attention to detail. The warbler is perched on a long twig, much longer than most of the other birds. This is probably to show how small the bird is, and emphasize its delicacy. Mr. Oka used Audubon identification cards along with a couple of small books as inspiration and reference for the creation of these tiny, realistic birds.
