Stevengraph bookmark, compound weave of white silk warp with silk weft in white, two blues, red, green, and yellow. Design is a poem with images substituted for some of the words; for example, an image of a bow is substituted for the word "beau". Bookmark is turned under and glued at the bottom edge to form a point; a tassel is sewn to the point. Registered 89. Dec. 2, 1874. Thomas Stevens, Coventry, England. Jacquard woven bookmarks and pictures were both an expression of technical virtuosity for textile manufacturers and a popular novelty item for consumers.
