Baluster measure with plain embryo-shell thumb piece; quart size. Stepped, triangular extension is burnt to the flat lid, which has a pair of incised lines around edge and center. Body has a galleried rim and flared base; two incised lines around rim, one at base, and two sets of three around body. Strap handle with stepped thumbrest and short terminal; cylindrical strut. Touchmark inside lid "W.SCOTT" in raised serif letters in a rectangle; illegible scratches outside. Rim exterior has a crowned George IV Edinburgh verification mark; Robert Wright, Dean of Guild mark; and a partial sideways mark with "1826". Bottom outside crudely engraved "ED"; another mark possibly erased.
There was more than one pewterer named William Scott working in The Grassmarket and West Bow areas of Edinburgh at this time. Probably William Scott (III), 1794-1836. Robert Wright was Dean of Guild, 1825-1827.
