Raised, bulbous oval salt with applied cast gadrooned rim on four cast legs with shell knees and three-toed feet. Gilt-washed bowl is engraved on exterior with an armorial device depicting a crest of a bird standing left on a perch rising from a heraldic wreath. Underside of rounded bottom is engraved in script "A. E. S. / from her / Grandmother / 1842." above and below the maker's mark "I•R" struck at center. Torn red-bordered white paper label is inscribed with donor's name. No centerpoint visible. One of two salts, DL*378849-378850.
