Hexagonal or coffin-end fiddle ladle with circular bowl and downturned handle engraved "GEB. Dearth" in script on front; no shoulders. Plain back is struck twice "I.FALES" in raised serif letters in a sawtooth or serrated rectangle.
Maker is James Fales (1780-1857); worked in Newport, RI; Bristol, RI; and New Bedford, MA (exact dates at each place unclear). Father of James Fales Jr. (1810-1879) and Giles Sanford Fales (1816-1887), both silversmiths.
