"Bead" pattern mustard spoon with small circular bowl and upturned pointed handle with beaded borders terminating in a pendant shell on front. Plain back is struck incuse at bottom of shaft with a winged lion passant facing left holding "W" in an oval, "STERLING" in serif letters, and "PAT.APP\D/.FOR" in sans serif letters.
Maker is Whiting Manufacturing Company, 1866-1926. Founded in North Attleboro, MA, by William Dean Whiting and partners; relocated to New York, NY from 1876-1904 following fire in Attleboro; also had factory in Bridgeport, CT, 1910-1924. Whiting became part of Gorham's Silversmith's Stock Company in 1905 and was purchased by Gorham in 1924. Gorham moved Whiting's operations to Providence and used the company's trademark until circa 1926. "Bead" pattern introduced in 1880.
