Ladle made as a single piece, with shallow circular bowl and straight, downturned handle, rectangular in section, ending in a circular hanger. Front of handle struck near bowl with circular mark containing "WK" in raised roman letters between a crosslet above and below.
Maker is possibly William Kirby (c. 1738-after 1810/1811) of New York, NY. Kirby was a pewterer; attribution of this ladle and other brass utensils to him is based on the similarity of their marks to the mark Kirby used on pewter.
