Rectangular, lidded box with gilt brass key lock on one long side, two hinges on the other, and a rectangular wire handle on one short end; painted black with red and gilt borders and pencilling or striping around all edges and sides. Flat lid is made of one piece with a wire-rolled rim. Box is made of two pieces with soft-soldered, folded edges, one for the sides and a flat bottom; all four top edges are folded with a raised bead below. Box bottom is stamped with the raised number "38". Hole punched from outside to lower left of handle. Small, steel key with heart-shaped bow is stored inside; stamped incuse on its shank "19".
