Rounded rectangular case with side-hinged lid and an identical design on flat front and back featuring a central, pointed onion-shape reserve encompassed by palmate motifs and a C-scroll border; reserve on one side (hinge atleft) is engraved "S.L.M." in wood branch-patterned block letters. Strike plate at bottom. Gold washed interior. Outside front and back of collar are struck "STERLING" in incuse sans serif letters. No other marks.
