"French Provincial" pattern toothbrush with cupped or concave, scroll-bordered, wavy handle featuring an X in four-petal motif at center of its flared and rounded tip. Removable head has five rows of tufts of bristles attached to a light-blue plastic base. Tuft side of handle is stamped with a right-facing lion rampant inside a script letter "T" next to "TOWLE" and "STERLING" and "French Provincial", all raised. Back of head has "JO-REN" spelled vertically between bullseyes with "PAT." at heel, all raised.
Maker is Towle Manufacturing Co. (now Towle Silversmiths) of Newburyport, MA; 1882-present. "French Provincial" introduced in 1948. Nothing further known about "JO-REN" and patent could not be found; needs further research.
