Overshot weave, Indigo-dyed, dark blue wool and natural undyed cotton or linen coverlet in the Catalpa Flower pattern. This coverlet is woven in 3 sections. Two of the sections are 28" wide and one is 27" wide. The top and bottom edges are hemmed. The natural colored cotton or linen yarn, has darkened to dark tan over time. The blue wool is still strong in color. According to the donor, her mother wove this spread during her childhood, "before she was born." her parents raised the sheep, carded the wool, etc. In 1962 the donor estimated the coverlet to be 125 years old.
