Fragment of a coverlet, made of 3 pieces. Hand-woven with indigo-dyed wool and bleached cotton yarns in naturalistic and conventional designs. Pieces from 3 parts of the coverlet: center, showing scalloped medallion with leaf, rose and star; border, showing tree, bird, and star; and corner showing the woven name "Anson Robinson" and date, 1842. Because of the donor, Mrs. Allen's, importance in teaching and preserving early handweaving, and the use of materials she collected in books on the subject, NMAH should keep the fragments she donated in the collection, as part of the national woven coverlet collection.
