Embroidered Kashmir Long Shawl, early 19th century? Long shawl or dochalla, 15 feet long by 1 1/2 feet wide. A plain grey center of fine cashmere, woven in a 2/2 twill, to the left; with a 2 1/1" matching grey fringe at either short end. A one foot wide palla or border at each end, entirely embroidered. Multi-color embroidery in a cone/buta/paisley design with a network of flower fill. Four corner ornaments in the same cone/buta motif. A 5/8" wide woven border runs down each side of the length. Originally owned by Mrs. E. M. Green, grandmother of the donor, in Lancaster, Massachusetts. Given by the donor in 1947.
