Mechlin bobbin lace border worn by Mrs. Richard Rush (Catherine Eliza Murray), wife of the Hon. Richard Rush of Pennsylvania (1780-1859), the first regent of the Smithsonian Institution, to whom was entrusted the transfer of the Smithsonian Bequest from England to the United States. The late 18th century lace is of fine quality.
