Bamboo sticks from the Matsuo Co., LTD, Kobe, Japan.10 bamboo sticks of various size. Hollowed out and given divots at one end. Sticks are broken into 4 groups. No.1, 4 sticks approx. 4” long, darker than the rest. No 2. 4 sticks approx. 3” long, lighter than No.1. No. 3, 1 stick approx. 2” long. Fancy- 1 stick approx. 2” long, seems to have a design or Japanese characters stained on it.
Part of a large collection of textile samples acquired by US Consuls overseas for the Dept. of Commerce, between about 1898 and 1918; in reporting on business opportunities and foreign competition. Transferred from the Dept. of Commerce in the 1920s-30s. Consular Collection.
