Khaki Drill sample from the Mombasa Consular group. On top is a green label with a Griffin head and an acorn branch in its mouth, “ILIAS IN NUCE”. Below the green label is a stamp of a rhinoceros in blue, and text “RHINO”. Below that, stamped in blue is "No. 1 S." Sanskrit text appears in blue towards the bottom. Label “Ogdens & Madeleys Limited Manchester” is stamped, also the seal in the left corner. In Right Corner is a key logo with “Guaranteed Government, Fast Dye”. At the bottom is the bolt length: “45 yards”. On the back is a stamp of the Griffin head with a “Warning Private Trade Marks” stamped below.
An envelope found with the Mombasa textile group reads: "Department of Commerce, Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Washington. 93881 (1917), Mombasa Textiles Brit. Manuf. CR 260 1917 FTO25764" (or FTO625764?) This is the Consular Report associated with this textile sample. At the time of this correspondence, Mombasa was in British East Africa.
