Small flax wheel, mahogany and ivory, of European origin, similar in style to Polish and German wheels. Purchased in New Haven, CT in 1937, at an estate sale. Fine craftsmanship on the legs distaff holder, distaff, wheel spokes and two wheel supports. Wood on wheel indicates the wheel has probably been reproduced using ivory decorations from the original wheel. The left maiden has been replaced with one of equally fine turning as the original. Flyer and treadle construction appear to be rather crude when compared to the other parts. The wheel contains 6 spokes--table length is 10 3/4" wheel size is 40" diameter, height of wheel is 16"
