Celestia Very Morey's woolwork floral wreath; ca. 1870. Made of Zephyr woolen yarns. Vestal Center, broome County, New York. Plush work in woolen yarns on a wrapped wire frame; multicolor; many different flowers represented, including tiger lily, lilies, fuchsia, lilac, daisies, black-eyed susans.. Bright and in good condition. Has been separated from original frame.(TE.T14402.00B).
According to the 1880 US Federal Census, Celestia Morey was born in Pennsylvania in about 1846. She was married to John Morey, and lived in Vestal, NY. Her father's birthplace was Vermont, her mother's, New York. One daughter, May, aged 8, was listed in the household. In the 1900 census she is listed as Lettie C. Morey, born January 1845 in Pennsylvania, married in 1870 to John B. Morey, blacksmith; living in Vestal, NY. The 1850 US Census lists Olney H. Very (born Vermont, age 47) and Phebe Very (born NY, age 37) and living in Harford, Pennsylvania, as having four children: Jerome (15); Theodore (10); Celestine (5) and Sarah Ann (2).
