In the 18th century it was common for historic figures to be memorialized in the prints used on fabrics. This is a fragment of an original century English copperplate print, made for the American market about 1785. It is known as "The Allegory of Franklin and Washington," and shows Washington in a chariot being pulled by leopards, while Franklin is shown with Lady Liberty.
