Flax spinning wheel, possibly of Dutch or Eastern European origin. The wheel was acquired by the donor in Ohio. Many of the wheel parts are intricately turned. The footman has been replaced with a leather strap. The treadle slows indication of repair. The flyer is unusal in that it is in tow parts, rather than carved as one piece (incomplete bobbin) Examination before purchasing this wheel, indicated the possiblility that the wheel was driven by meands of a sngle drie band. After purchasing and a closer examination of its parts and contruction, the wheel was found to have a double drive. Stamped on metal shaft near orifice are the letters *WDGT" Dimensions: table 12" x 4", front leg 15"l, back legs 13.5"L, wheel circ. 3ft. .1/4inch.,wheel dia. 11.25, distance between madidens *", flyer 6" W, metal shaft 6"l
