Outfielder Enos Slaughter played Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals (1938-1942, 1946-1953), New York Yankees (1954-1955, 1956-1959), Kansas City Athletics (1955-1956) and Milwaukee Braves. He served in the United States military during the Second World War.
A ten-time All-Star, Slaughter, a left-handed batter, had a lifetime .300 batting average, with 2,383 hits, 169 home runs and 1, 304 runs batted in. The North Carolina native played on four World Series Championship teams and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.
