Surgical dilator used during the Civil War by Lt. Col. William Irvin Wolfley, 62nd Ohio Infantry. The “OTTO & REYNDERS” inscription is that of Ferdinand Otto and John Reynders (fl. 1860-1875), surgical and medical instrument makers in New York.
