Hank Greenberg

Description:

White metal pin featuring Detroit Tiger Hank Greenberg. The pin is part of the 1938 Our National Game series. It was originally was affixed to a cardboard backing.

Hank Greenberg (b. 1911-1986) played Major League baseball from 1930-1947, missing the 1942-1944 seasons due to military service. The catcher played the Detroit Tigers for the entirety of his career, except for his final season, spent with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A five time All-Star, Greenberg won two American League MVP awards (1935,1940) and helped lead the Tigers to two World Series Championships (1935, 1945.) The Hebrew Hammer, Greenberg, baseball's first Jewish American superstar, had a .313 lifetime batting average, with 331 home runs and 1,276 runs batted in.

In 1956 he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
