- Description
- The obverse of this medal has a goddess with shield and caduceus, and “CONFERRED BY / AMERICAN MEDICINE / NEW YORK CITY / 1916.” The reverse has book with lamp and “FREDERICK M. ALLEN / FOR CONSPICUOUS SERVICE / TO / HUMANITY / ‘A TRUE PHYSICIAN’.” Frederick Madison Allen (1879-1964) was an American physician who recommended a carbohydrate-restricted low-calorie diet for sufferers of diabetes mellitus.
