Seabury's Sanitary Pocket Cuspidor, Absolutely Waterproof and Burnable, “As devised by Major D. M. Appel, Surgeon, U.S. Army” and “Patented by G. R. Wyman, U.S.A. / Pat. No. 621,732.” George Seabury was a founding partner of Seabury & Johnson, a firm of pharmaceutical chemists established in New York in 1873. Daniel M. Appel (1854-1914) was an Army surgeon who focused his care on soldiers with consumption (aka tuberculosis).
