This hand balance has a heavy 6-inch iron beam with index, and 2.5-inch brass pans. A hand-written paper in the lid of the rectangular wooden case correlates grains and scruples. It belonged to Henry J. Berkley (1861-1940), a psychiatrist in Baltimore.
