Description
The U.S. Weather Bureau transferred this radiosonde to the Smithsonian in 1963. An inscription on the cardboard box reads in part "Olland System Ray Sonde. Julien P. Friez & Sons, Baltimore." Olland was an electrical engineer who developed a telemetry circuit to transmit measurements from Mont Blanc to Paris in 1874.
