- 8" x 10" glass negative image of the moon taken by Edward Emerson Barnard at the Lick Observatory. A note on the image reads "1890, Aug. 25. 7h 57m P.S.T. Moon's age 10d 12h - exposure 3 sec. Aperture 8 inches A1/25BOC1/25 - wt.5. Moon very low - d = -24O" and "C226 E.E.B." The inscriptions on the original storage envelope read “#3” and "Pl V" and "Original - 1890 Aug 25 Instrument 33-inch Moon - Age 10d 12h Enlargement: O." and "Presented to Smithsonian Inst by the Lick Observatory."
