Over 30 years ago my son was crawling and had pulled the cord to my curling iron, it fell and burned his hand. I immediately ran up to the pharmacy and was told by the pharmacist to use spiriti. I still remember the turquoise box on the shelf that was dusty and old looking but I grabbed it and headed home. I immediately put it on my sons hand which had started to blister I put a bandage on his hand. Then the next day I removed the bandage to check it and was amazed no blister! It was like it never happened! A month after my sons accident . My coworker missed 4days of work and was calling in to say she would not be able to come in again. I asked her if she was alright and she started crying, she explained she had used a hydroxy skin mask and it burned her skin so bad it blistered and scabbed and keeps cracking. She said how painful it was. I told her about the sprite and then had my husband bring her some spiriti. She said it was like a miracle and she came back to work two days later in awe of how unbelievable the stuff worked. Why would a product that was so incredible be unavailable in 2020? I would pay 100.00 to get a tube of sperti. Wish you could still buy it.
Sperti became Preparation H. The ingredient "biodyne" was subsequently banned by the FDA in the US. You can still get it with biodyne from Canada. The original had biodyne (discovered/invented by George Sperti around 1935) and shark liver oil as active ingredients. G. Sperti was a research professor at the univerisity of Cincinatti his entire life after graduation from UC.
The best healing ointment I have ever used. The uses of the product are endless. When we heard the Sperti Co. had been bought by a NY firm in the 1990's, we bought every tube we could find. Had begun using Sperti in the 1960's and have never been disappointed. Still using the Sperti and it works as well as ever.
Sperti Ointment was the absolute best ointment for cuts, scrapes, burns, infected wounds, anything that needed first aid - this was the greatest stuff to put on it. It cleared infections and painful scrapes in a matter of hours. And if you burned yourself- quick application of Sperti would stop your skin from blistering and take the pain away. It healed cuts and scrapes within a day. I will never understand why they stopped making Sperti Ointment. There is nothing even close to it on the market today. I wish I could find more of it - I'd buy a case or more. I really miss not being able to use it. It was an awesome product. Best I've ever found - nothing else compares to it.
