Description
Framed poster from Phyllis Diller’s time portraying Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! on Broadway. Diller portrayed Dolly for three months in 1970 at the St. James Theatre in New York City. Diller followed Carol Channing, Ginger Rogers, Martha Raye, Pearl Bailey (in a version with an all-black cast), and Betty Grable in the roll and was replaced by Ethel Merman, who closed out the show in December 1970. NMAH’s collection also includes the costume that Diller wore in the show (Catalog Number 2003.0289.10).
