Obverse Image: Cross potent on three steps, beneath is a cross constructed out of pellets; at the center of the cross is an oval medallion with facing bust of Romanus I, bearded and wearing a crown and loros, in left field R / W in right field M / A surrounded entirely by a triple border ornamented with four equally spaced globules.
Obverse Text: R / W / IhSUS / XRISTUS / NICA / M / A
Reverse Image: Text split into five lines surrounded by a triple border; beneath and above are crosses comprised of five pellets like obverse, all surrounded by triple border ornamented with eight equally spaced globules.
