This trophy was presented to Duke Ellington by the Pittsburgh Courier in 1948. It is comprised of four columns supporting a half-sphere with four spread eagles and topper with a lyre and eagle ornament. There is a statue of liberty in the middle of the four columns on a stepped wooden base with four corner columns and an engraved metal plate. The half-sphere is engraved:
